occupy wall street

Response to occupy Wall Street

In our visit to zucotti park, place were they took as a central camp station for something call occupy Wall Street. In our visit to this place we found a lot of interesting things, some of the things that really called my attention were the way in which the have everything organize. The set up of the place where they receive the food, information, healthy issues and others. In my visit I had the opportunity to interview two people the first person was:

Peter blackster, this man is from annarber mich, the reason for which he decide to form part of this protest is because he believe that he is not being count and he wants to be count. When we interview this person he had only one day sleeping at this place. This man that I assume it was in the mid 40s argues that there is a lot of imbalance of power and that’s the reason that pushed him to form part of this protest.

We also interview another man by the name of ibraheem awadallah; this man is from middle town, New York. This man have being in the park for the last two weeks and according to him the main reason for which he is there is because he want to form part of the “ small victories”, having as a main point “ spreading the word”. When we ask this man about the whole idea of being there all he answer was that this was something that should had start long time ago. And when we ask him about what he would do if they move from the park he answer. That he would go anywhere that they relocated. After I interview this man I notice that he had a personal issue that influence him to be there but at that point it was hard to even try to identify the main reason because even having this interview was hard because his tone of voice was very low and it made very difficult the interview.

In general after visiting the occupy wall street I start understanding that some how there are try to make a difference and be heard but the questions is how much longer would it take before the government decide to listen to them. Would it take weeks or more people or it would just go away with the change of weather. This is the question that we would have to wait for some time to pass before we can answer this question.

response ch 2 mightier than the sword

Response to chapter 2

Mightier than the sword

In this chapter they talk about different people that change the way in which the history change through the used of journalism. But there is someone remarkable. REV. ELIJAH P. LOVEJOY. This man was the turning point for the press against racism and slavery begin. Lovejoy was a man that believes that slavery was not the right thing in the early 1800. So in order for this man to express what he was against it he form a press. The mobs and people that actually believe slavery rejected this press immediately and abuse towards the black people was right. Do to this event his press was burned. After that he did three more press centers. And the three of them were burn unfortunately in the last press after confronting the opposition he was shot several times leading to the end of his life.

Not leading to anything good there was an editor named WILLIAM LLOYD GARRISON. This man was a radical abolitionist editor. This man was also a key to the success of freedom for the black slavery. This man creates a press called THE LIBERATOR. This was news that provides the public with information about how the Africa-Americans were being sold just like any other animal. This lead to reactions and heavy influences to the public in general. With the time and assessment of events he became recognize and supported it by people in the highest level of the government.

After this two man the abolitionist system to help the black slaves had a race in the way things were done. Even though it was hard the publications, press and their ideas star taking a really big place in the time. Even though everything start with Mr.Lovejoy. The press and it system of informing the public is what make the journalists the big performers of the truth to the public no being afraid of what other entities or departments with in the system may think about. I can conclude by saying that abolitions can be consider as the most important step for the journalism to raise because I all the possible ways it was try the journalism always present the truth about the situation with out taking sides making it very evenly distributed.

response to protest 2

2nd response to the protest.

As of today Thursday September 29, 2011. The protesters still have as a home based the Zuccotti Park. As of yesterday approximately 6 people were arrested during a march that was taking place ending in the front doors of the Wall Street building. Place to which the march couldn’t end because police officers closed the streets surround to this place. The only thing that still amazed me about this situation is that every time this news is being less and less discuss by the newspapers when is still taking place and its still being discuss with out a possible solution. I still stand up to say that: what’s going on with this matter for some reason is not being given the importance that it should be given. Is still having my doubts about the reason why on the newspapers all they talk about is police officers doing something and how the protesters are misbehaving but there is not a real judgment from the protesters. This only get me to think that reporters are not doing there jobs or they are being suppress on any way by entities that wouldn’t be beneficiated with the information being given in more detail to the viewers and readers. I hope that this situation gets to an end soon and that the journalist and reporters start analyzing if they are really reporting the news on an uncensored way to give the news to the public.

response to protest

Response to

Videos show police using pepper spray at the protest on the financial system.

As I was reading the story. I realize the importance that the protesters are concern about. I also try to understand why this story is not in the front page of the papers or why this news is not extended to the broadcasting system to see the importance of this matter. Up to today almost 5 after the first incident took place am still trying to understand why is this a matter that all major news papers and informatics systems are not really involved with this. This really lead me to a quick conclusion that journalism is not doing its jobs by informing the public the way is supposed to. At the same time I don’t really understand why the news surrounded to this matter are being so bias. They are not giving enough information about the situation. Why the reporters are just staying in the margin of the whole situation and why the police officers are abusing with the power that is given to them. Besides the small column that was given to them in a newspaper like the New York Times. The only way to really acquired knowledge of what is going on with this situation is thru the Internet especially thru videos that are being posed by the people. I don really think that police officers are acting in the most correct way to control a situation like this and the used of pepper spray was excessive used of force because this should only be used in the result of violence or extreme necessary which according to the video that I saw it wasn’t either.

One of the things that is really surprising is that to my understanding of journalism this matter is having a bad journalism involved because this is a situation that some how affect us all Americans and even though we are not directly involved in the protest the economy and the crisis surrounding it is something that we all have to be informed about. People can call this matter how ever they want but to my thinking this is an unethical used of information given to us by the reporters and journalist and is a well showing cruel reality the one being shown by the people and the community that is informing us thru videos.

news matters

News matters response

In the reading “news matters” There are a lot of different short stories of how the journalism can be very relevant for our lives. Even though we have good and bad journalism there is always the need of news and information. The news matters reading starts with the Watergate’s case. This case was a very known case and it transcend to the fact that not even government entities were able to interfere with the journalism job. Job that is very important because is based on the idea of informing the public without trying to cover any truth that the public should know about.

Some times we as readers and viewers of the news take for granted that the journalists in most of the cases are trying to inform us without directing there self to who may be beneficiated with the information. Journalist is only truth to the people. One perfect example of this is the news of the tires that were install in the ford cars that end up in the save of a lot of human lives. Also we cannot take an over look on the coverage that was given by the reporters after September 2001. This and many other situations are proof of what good journalism is. In the other hand there is journalism that is very bias and can lead to many expectations such as leaving information out of the report that can actually have a big impact in a specific matter.

Even though the news and the way to get informed has change so much with the new implementation of new technology and with the interferences of government identities to hide the real information from the public we can still consider our self lucky to have some good journalism that still goes over the limitations that are giving to make good and informative reporting of the news and to those journalists I would like to thank because without there help our voices and our lives wouldn’t have the knowledge of situations that are occurring around the world.

response to chapter 1

Response to chap 1

What is journalism for?

In chapter I was able to answer the question more than once through out the text. Now I can conclude and round the idea of wahats journalism for by saying that is the global idea about our lives from an uncensored point of diagnostic. What I mean by this is that we as humans always want to be informed about things that surround us but as humans is impossible to be in more then one place at an specific time. But journalism when is legit and original give us the information and keep us informed about everything that is happening no mattering if we are close to it or far away. As I was reading the chapter there was something that really catch my attention and it was mainly when they give a quick over view of the situation that was taking place in Poland, I cant imagine exactly the feeling of getting up one day realizing that there is no way to see what’s is going on the world or even just to see how the weather is going to be that day. The feeling of frustration at which Poland’s were exposes it was really big.

As time passes journalism has grown tremendously but still as the freedom of journalism grows the way in which the government try to attack the journalism and the need of the news changes. Even after such a long period of time in which these situations start taking place. Some how we still see how the goverment try to apply the power that they have to hide information that we as readers need. Even if there are different type of readers there is always something that will take our attention just because that is how people get the idea of colleting information but at the end it all conclude with the fact that journalism is the most contextual and straight way to get the news without deviations.
